On the 26th November we had a quick induction on the laser cutter and the 3D printers in the FabLab. I think they are really interesting and I am excited to use the laser cutter as I think I could do something with it to create my book cover.

Laser cutting - can laser cut into most things as long as they aren't shiny as it will reflect the laser and potentially start a fire. It can even laser cut into paper. I am thinking that I could cut a photo into wood or paper for my book. Although that you generally need to book the machine out two weeks in advance as it is the most popular piece of equipment in the FabLab.

3D printing - scan in an object and get it printed - can take the scanner into the studio to get a really well lit object. They are getting a new fancy scanner in a few days which is industry standard will mean you are able to capture a lot more detail meaning the print will be a lot sharper.

The team in the FabLab really want more photography students to come into the lab as they don't see many people in there but they think we could do some really cool stuff so they are up for spending a lot of time helping you work out if your ideas can become a reality.
