To make a proposal you just need a time frame of when the work is going to be done by not a completed project.
MAKE MULTIPLE DRAFTS - DON’T RUSH IT
Look at previous recipients of the draft, see if you are similar.
Don’t bend your work to fit the grant then it’s not worth while.
Make sure you complete everything they’ve asked for otherwise they won't consider your application - they won’t look at it long so make sure images and videos are sized properly so it doesn't take too long to load.
As your writing your proposal write your budget so you don’t forget anything. Remember to count yourself in as labour so that you actually make money - as a student you might only be asking for small amounts so money so you may omit your labour as just getting the money to do the project is good enough. If expenses exceed the grant write where you are getting it from, if you are getting it from multiple sources it shows confidence. A detailed budget also shows confidence
Be specific if you are too broad they won’t be able to get a clear picture of what you want to do.
Use editors! Use someone is good with the english language and who isn’t afraid to insult you. Also it is a good idea to use someone who isn’t in the art world to make sure it is clear as the person reading your application may not be that artists.
A really interesting bio can sometimes be more important than a CV if they haven’t stated that they want to see your CV, especially if you don’t have an extensive CV.
Look at examples:
Arts Council - funded by the national lottery
EUCLID - we can still apply for EU funding until we leave the EU
Paul Hamlyn Foundation - there are always lots of funds if you are wanting to teach workshops in schools
Princess Trust - they have their own grants and they also tell you other places that are giving grants
East Devon. Gov
Arts Health and Wellbeing
Big Lottery Fund - they have stories of other people who have got money
Arts and Humanities - have ones about travelling
Photo Contest Guru - grants and competitions
Jacob James - funding and grants in remembrance to artists
