Murray Ballad was the example photographer we got for the one planet living brief. In his work he chose to focus on how humans have changed and shaped our landscape in a positive way. Used to the 5x4 large format cameras, Ballad chose to use a tilt shift lens with his digital camera so he could capture two images of the same scene and edit them together to keep that 5x4 style.

He’s captured the action of planting and protecting new trees; 7 million trees a year are lost to deforestation.

The restoration of original walls and fences; Helps maintain the natural grazing of livestock maintaining the natural habitats of other animals.

Beekeepers at Preston Manor; As of 2017 bees have ended up on our endangered species list. They are essential for the pollination of our crops.
Each image depicts a small way we are helping to restore our natural world to its former glory. The alternative would be to photograph the negative effects they are all combating. Hannah and I are planning to photograph the plastic we find on beaches not just what we are doing to combat the problem. By showing this it will highlight the issue rather than just the solution.
